LINDA PETERSON POLLEN

Welcome to my virtual gallery. This has been very rewarding year with my painting.  I wish to extend a thank you to my new collectors.  Please enjoy the new work I have added to my web site especially the oil landscapes from Italy and Cape Cod.

As the leaves turn and we await the first  snow flakes I will be leaving  my summer studio on beautiful Cape Cod in Falmouth, MA and retuning to historic  Lexington, MA.  I took a magical trip to France  this spring and spent the summer in Falmouth, MA.  I enjoyed the activities of the Falmouth Artist Guild and received the “jurors choice award” at the Falmouth Artist Guild’s 2011  Summer Juried Show.  The  November/December  2011 issue of the Cape Cod  Magazine has  an article about me with several examples of my new paintings.    This year, 2015, I received “Best of Show” for the oil painting pictured with me  titled “Manhattan Morning”.  Travel is a source of inspiration in my painting and I look forward to creating new work based on these experiences. As you can see, it is an exciting and interesting time for me.

Wishing you art and beauty in your life always,

     Linda

Artist's Statement

I have a deep passion for the beauty and complexity of nature. I begin my creative process by choosing evocative subjects that suggest universality of experience such as panoramic views or light illuminating familiar objects. Painting en plein air or from my digital photographs, I then decide whether to use traditional oil techniques or transparent watercolor as the media that best captures the atmosphere and serenity of the scene. I enjoy the depth and luminosity of oil color as well as the immediacy of a textural surface for my ethereal landscapes and seascapes. Watercolor, with its vibrant transparencies conveys both a fragile intimacy and a bold contrast in my still-life paintings and interior scenes. Layering color in a glazing technique allows for a fluid atmospheric quality unique to transparent watercolor. I enjoy experimenting with varied compositional ideas and unusual color compositions to strengthen my personal approach to the subject.

Like Mondrian, who expressed his art in both natural realism and geometric abstraction; I also produce large-scale geometric paintings. Working in oil on canvas I devise a framework based on golden section proportions and geometric shapes. I then apply veils of brilliant color and texture to create a vibrant and dreamlike spacial world.

My artistic goal is to continue developing the spiritual and meditative quality in my paintings in an attempt to forge a personal connection with the sensibilities of the viewer. My greatest artistic accomplishments have been the professional recognition and interesting commissions I have received for my work. I also relish in the continued technical growth and artistic discoveries that come with each new painting.

My need to create art comes from an inner desire that has been present since my early childhood to express my emotional response to the visual world and to the pleasures of the nature closely observed.
